\nThe perilous lenses of COVID-19: The sociopolitical impact<\/h2>\n

The virus arrived stealthily, without warning. It trapped humanity in one of its moments of greatest globalisation, of great population displacements in a world with fewer borders to cross. A microscopic, opportunistic organism that does not discriminate has humanity on its knees and has forced us to change our habits. The coronavirus is the biggest challenge since World War II, and could lead to the worst recession since 1929<\/a>, according to the IMF.<\/p>\n

A question today among millions of people in many corners of the planet is whether there will be a “New World Order ” after the ravages of the pandemic of SARS-COVID-2 or COVID-19. Despite the ornate, diplomatic, and seemingly stable relations between Russia, China, and the US, the reality is inescapable: neither Russia nor China are allies of Washington.<\/p>\n

In an interview with Fox News<\/a>, President Donald Trump again questioned China’s management of the virus on May 14, saying: “There are many things we could do. We could cut off the whole relationship [with China].” The President even points out that “you’d save $500 billion [from this alliance severance].”<\/p>\n

Alarms<\/strong><\/h4>\n

For the first time in 2019, China surpassed the United States in the Global Fortune 500 ranking, a list that, for three decades has selected the largest companies in the world based on their income. When the SARS epidemic came in 2003, China made up 4% of global production. Now, according to the Harvard Business Review, it constitutes 16%, four times more<\/a>, which means that what happens in that country today affects the world much more.<\/p>\n

The virus outbreak emerged at the center of a more than a year-long trade war between the planet’s two biggest movers, in which China was forced to relinquish part of its claims and sign an agreement with the White House in mid-January. One of China’s commitments in the pact was that it would buy an additional $200 billion in US goods in the next two years, according to the CNBC.<\/p>\n

Tension increases<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Washington, along with other nations, points out that China withheld information about the virus and manipulated its real magnitude.<\/p>\n

A report from the German Federal Intelligence Service claimed that Chinese President Xi Jinping asked the Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, to “delay a global warning” about the COVID-19 threat.<\/p>\n

According to the report published in the German daily Der Spiegel, on January 21, and then on the NY Post<\/a>, Jinping asked Tedros Adhanom to withhold information on human-to-human transmission and to delay warning of a pandemic.”<\/p>\n

The World Health Organization has been a disaster, everything they said was wrong, and they are focused on China, said Trump, who claimed to have enough evidence to prove that the Chinese regime misled the world community. The Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, has repeatedly reiterated that hypothesis.<\/p>\n

The pandemic has exposed the danger of trade and economic ties with a country, whose own Constitution<\/a> states that the fundamental task of the nation consists of keeping to the “socialist road.” The Constitution furthers says that under the leadership of the Communist Party of China and guided by Marxism-Leninism and the thought of Mao Zedong, the Chinese people of various nationalities will continue to persevere in the people’s “democratic dictatorship.”<\/p>\n

COVID-19: A means to an end?<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Many renowned celebs, governments, political experts, have the view that the pandemic is a human-made creation that purposefully shows the inability of the current world leaders to do their job and the need for a worldwide government. Although there have also been counter-arguments, those arguing for this theory believe that a New World Order is coming, and the only way that power elites could take control would be by creating panic over a real problem rooted on health. When there has been a specific inability and failure to contain it, this means that the health system is flawed. And when this has conspired with the help of the mainstream media that nothing is happening in the right direction, this is giving the right for a change of politics.<\/p>\n

Therefore, the real question is: is the virus human-made? If it’s not, is it being used as a pawn to achieve a “New World Order” after the pandemic? A Norwegian researcher and virologist claims to have proof that COVID-19 is manufactured<\/a>, according to New Europe. However, although he is backed by an MI6 head, Richard Dearlove, the scientific community refutes these claims, which are not based on any scientific documentation.<\/p>\n

The rumor that COVID-19 is man-made has been circulating again on social networks. This theory stems from a study published in the journal QRB Discovery. Norwegian scientist Birger S\u00f8rensen and British professor Angus Dalgleish have looked into the development of a vaccine against COVID-19. They also studied the characteristics of the virus and suggested that the protein on the tip of the coronavirus has sequences that appear to have been inserted. One of the researchers said in an interview that it would be a human intervention, which the study does not say.<\/p>\n

What resonated strongly with this study was the support of Richard Dearlove, former director of MI6 (the United Kingdom’s foreign intelligence service). He commented on The Telegraph’s “Planet Normal” podcast on S\u00f8rensen’s statements to Norwegian media NRK. It is in this interview that the researcher explains his conclusions on the artificial origin of the coronavirus. Richard Dearlove argued this hypothesis: “I think it started as an accident. It raises the question of whether China will take responsibility and whether China should pay compensation.” For him, the pandemic could have started at the Wuhan Institute of Virology. After Richard Dearlove’s speech, the British Prime Minister’s spokesman accused him of peddling “fanciful allegations.”<\/p>\n

“‘Coronovirus’ an immense opportunity to build a new world order”<\/strong><\/h4>\n

In Brazil, a new theory has been created and spread by one of Bolsonaro’s ministers. The pandemic is “an immense opportunity to build a world order without nations and without freedom,” reads an official statement<\/a> signed by Brazil’s Minister of Foreign Relations, Ernesto Ara\u00fajo.<\/p>\n

According to Araujo, the virus is being used to establish communist regimes. The head of Brazilian foreign policy argues for this conspiracy in the book Pandemic! by the Slovenian, Slavoj Zizek, a Marxist writer: “In that book, what Marxists hid 30 years ago is revealed: globalism replaced socialism as a preparatory phase for Communism. The pandemic represents for him an immense opportunity to build a world order without nations and without freedom.”<\/p>\n

Araujo also supports this theory on the idea that the WHO has the support of left-wing intellectuals, as in the case of Zizek: “It is just the first step in the construction of planetary communist solidarity.”<\/p>\n

This theory has also been supported and disseminated in Spain, specifically by various politicians. Macarena Olona, \u200b\u200bthe spokesperson for VOX, accused China of bringing “the plague of the 21st century” and “the breeding ground for communist principles to prevail in our country.” Olona has also accused the government of applying “ferocious euthanasia.” According to him: “This social-communist government wanted to introduce euthanasia in Spain, and unfortunately, by way of facts, it has applied it in the most ferocious way.”<\/p>\n

VOX has also singled out the UN, accusing it of being sold to China, thus supporting Trump, who suspended funding to the WHO amid a global pandemic. Santiago Abascal was in charge of the accusation, stating that “the Chinese dictatorship has also bought the WHO and I would ask them to be vigilant because within six months if we do not protect ourselves, everything here will be Chinese except the virus.”<\/p>\n

The empowerment\/enthronement of dictators: the first signs of a New World Order?<\/strong><\/h4>\n

For analysts with the New World Order idiosyncrasies, for the whole World to bow to the “incoming” hegemons, there is a need to undemocratise. This, they argue, is the partial militarisation of democracies; which world governments are imposing in the name of enforcing lockdown regulations, and which others argue might just become permanent, beyond the pandemic. Many governments are seeing in the crisis an opportunity to increase their power or to avoid adverse political outcomes. For example, the Prime Minister of Italy, Giuseppe Conte, who is said to have the support of more than 70% of the Italian population, signed a decree<\/a> in March that placed more than 10 million people in a forced lockdown in the city of Lombardi, according to The Guardian.<\/p>\n

Within this context, Anne Applebaum recounts in an interesting text in The Atlantic magazine how some governments have taken advantage of the health emergency to expand their powers. There she relates that, recently, the Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orban, sent an initiative to Congress seeking to expand his executive powers to practically dictatorial ones, while proposing the creation of two new over-inclusive crimes, which could serve to persecute the independent press and political opponents.<\/p>\n

In Israel, the controversial Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, according to The Times of Israel, issued an executive decree where he canceled the sessions of the country’s judiciary, thereby also postponing the start of a trial against him for alleged acts of corruption, which had started two weeks ago.<\/p>\n

In Chile, for its part, as can be seen in this video<\/a> by the VOA, the military now patrols the streets and public squares<\/a> and a military chief is responsible for supervising the measures taken by the Chilean government, according to Reuters. In Bolivia, the presidential elections due to take place in May were postponed, the Financial Times reports.<\/p>\n

Not enough evidence yet<\/strong><\/h4>\n

However, for Seth J. Frantzman, an analyst for The National Interest, “there doesn\u2019t seem to be much evidence so far that the pandemic has led to unified global leadership.” He explains that the POTUS, Donald Trump, has instead constantly sought the reduction of the US global role. Unlike with previous administrations, America under him is dropping the mantle as a big brother to the world, and he expects other countries of the world to “do their part.” According to him, there will be no New World Order after all. Instead, “the result will likely be a more divided and chaotic world order, with Western states being more isolationist in the short term.”<\/p>\n

Conclusion:<\/strong><\/h4>\n

There doesn’t seem to exist concrete evidence that proves man-made the virus from Wuhan. However, it is becoming a pawn used in achieving a change in the world order and undemocratize the world.<\/p>\n
