In a powerful display of dedication and determination, federal authorities made a chilling revelation earlier this year. A meticulously executed two-week operation, aptly named “Operation Cross County,” spearheaded by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), led to a heart-wrenching discovery: 200 victims ensnared in the dark web of sex trafficking and over 125 suspects brought to justice.<\/p>\n
Throughout this operation, the FBI’s unwavering efforts uncovered not only 200 victims of child sexual exploitation and sex trafficking but also revealed the harrowing plight of 59 missing children who had vanished into the shadows of society.<\/p>\n
In a symphony of collaboration, the FBI joined forces<\/a> with numerous state and local law enforcement agencies, pooling their expertise to apprehend 126 individuals suspected of participating in child exploitation and human trafficking, along with 68 alleged traffickers.<\/p>\n \u201cHuman trafficking is a grave violation of human rights that preys on the most vulnerable members of our society,\u201d FBI Director Christopher Wray said in an August 1 announcement<\/a> of the arrests and recoveries. \u201cThe FBI\u2019s actions against this threat never waver as we continue to send our message that these atrocities will not be tolerated.\u201d<\/p>\n Attorney General Merrick B. Garland, standing as the voice of justice, declared in a resolute statement<\/a> that those who engage in sex trafficking place some of society’s most vulnerable individuals in grave danger, causing immeasurable harm. He underscored the tireless work of the FBI in locating and rescuing 59 missing children, while simultaneously bringing the perpetrators of these heinous deeds to justice.<\/p>\n The formidable partnership between the FBI and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children was the linchpin of this crucial mission. Together, they embarked on an arduous journey, a mission that transcended law enforcement boundaries. Their aim was clear: to rescue victims ensnared in the vicious web of sex trafficking, be they children or adults, while relentlessly pursuing those responsible for their torment.<\/p>\n Operation Cross Country 13, a nationwide law enforcement initiative, bore the collective weight of federal, state, and local agencies. These brave men and women, joined by social services agencies, united under one banner: to seek out and extend a lifeline to victims of human trafficking, with a particular focus on safeguarding our most precious resource\u2014our vulnerable children.<\/p>\n To this end, the efforts do not stop there. Locating and apprehending the predators is the first step. Building their lives back without traumatising the children and still gathering evidence is a second step. The FBI\u2019s\u00a0Victim Services Division<\/a>\u00a0has a team of child and adolescent forensic interviewers, or CAFIs that workwith state and local partners to help the victims through counselling, medical services, housing or job placement.<\/p>\n
