Ex-Hollywood movie producer Harvey Weinstein will be charged with two counts of indecent assault against a woman in London in the summer of 1996.
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) authorized the Metropolitan Police to charge the 70-year-old former film producer after a review collected by the police force.
The Metropolitan Police said it is alleged two offenses took place between 31st July and 31st August 1996. Additionally, the forces said that the alleged victim is a woman who is now aged in her 50s. The two offenses of indecent assault, are contrary to section 14(1) of the Sexual Offences Act 1956.
“The Crown Prosecution Service reminds all concerned that criminal proceedings against the defendant are active and that he has the right to a fair trial.” Rosemary Ainslie, head of the CPS special crime division, said.
This news comes five years after the British Police said they were investigating sexual assault claims against the former Hollywood movie producer, Weinstein, which allegedly happened several decades ago in the UK.
If that’s not enough, Harvey Weinstein-co-founder of the entertainment company Miramax and the Weinstein Company Film Studio is currently serving a 23-year prison sentence while he awaits another trial in California. He is serving his sentence in New York after his convictions for a criminal sexual act in the first degree and rape in the third degree were upheld earlier this month.
Harvey Weinstein, a former Hollywood producer has several such accusations in the U.S.A
The UK’s indecent assault case against a woman comes a week after an appellate court in New York upheld Harvey’s rape and criminal sexual act convictions after the former Hollywood producer appealed his 2020 conviction. Harvey had insisted the trial was much influenced by media coverage and said accusers who weren’t part of the case should not have been permitted to give evidence, claims a jury of five judges disapproved.
Harvey Weinstein, who has rejected sexual assault allegations against him – was found at fault for raping a woman at a hotel in 2013. And in another case, he was also found to be in the wrong after forcibly carrying out oral sex on another woman in 2006. The charges were enforced after the New York Times 2017 shared stories from different women who said they were assaulted or harassed by Harvey Weinstein, events that lead to the rise of the #MeToo movement.
Aside from the recent charges of two counts of indecent assault against a woman in London, the U.K Police in 2017 said they were looking into accusations of assault against the former Hollywood movie producer mogul, Weinstein, from three women in separate cases in London in the late 1980s, 1992, 2010, 2011, and 2015.
What’s shocking is that more than 80 women have accused the “Shakespeare in love” producer, Harvey of sexual harassment, rape, or assault, including Angelina Jolie, Mimi Haleyi, Rose McGowan, Ashley Judd, Salma Hayek, Asia Argento, and Gwyneth Paltrow in a period of slightly over 30 years.
Final thoughts
Even though the former Hollywood producer, Harvey Weinstein has just started his 23 years sentence, it seems like he will be there longer than anticipated as more charges are heading his way. The two additional indecent charges in the UK against a 50-year-old woman are just the beginning.
After being found guilty of sexual assault and rape, Harvey Weinstein’s legal team has been seeking an appeal for his 23-year sentence. But according to Variety, a New York appeals court dismissed any additional disputes concerning overturning the EX-Hollywood Producer’s judgment. Furthermore, Variety says that Harvey is being held in Los Angeles where he is expected to face an extra 11 assault-related allegations.
So, it seems that Harvey Weinstein won’t be out any time soon as more cases and evidence are presented.
